A shot from my favorite scene in "Bringing Up Baby", 1938
If you love screwball comedies as much as I do, you can instantly identify the source for this post title. Tonight we got to see that wonderful movie – Bringing Up Baby – at a church movie night, at the invite of some friends. And that was fabulous. I can almost quote the script along with the movie at this point, as many times as I’ve seen it. But I still laugh long and loud every time. It’s such a silly movie, so preposterous, but utterly winning. The supporting cast is terrific – Charles Ruggles, Barry Fitzgerald, Fritz Feld, May Robson – trust me, you know the faces even if you don’t recognize the names. And the leads, Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant are as lovable as they would ever be, in any film. Have I mentioned that I adore Cary Grant?
Here is A.O. Scott’s brief tribute to “Bringing Up Baby”. If you haven’t seen the movie, remedy that situation as soon as possible, as quickly as you can say, “I’ll be with you in a minute, Mr. Peabody.”
