It’s the weekend, which means most of you are doing better things than reading my blog. I know that’s true because I follow my site stats, and every weekend they fall off of a cliff. So I’ve decided it’s okay for me to slack off of a bit on the weekends. But I’m not completely abandoning my post (no pun intended). I have a piece up at Civil Religion on the earthquake in Japan that you can read, if you like. The editor asked us to see if we could come up with something. I did, but I won’t pretend that it’s inspirational. If you’re looking for “God’s in His heaven all’s right with the world” kind of writing, consider yourself warned. No offense to Robert Browning, whose poetry I dearly love. I wrote a paper on Andrea Del Sarto when I was in college and it is still one of my favorites, although I got a D because I was feeling too rebellious and lazy to do the footnotes and bibliography that were required.
For a laugh, I offer you this photo that I swiped from The Sacred Sandwich. It’s plausible.
