It Really Does Sound Like a Train

I left the power cord for my laptop at work, so the question is…..will I finish the post before my battery dies?  The suspense is killing me.

We had a doozy of a storm last night!  Our house has open space on two sides so we are accustomed to being rattled by strong winds.  But this was wind taken to a whole – other – level.  I had already fallen asleep when the text message came that we were under a tornado warning.  Mr. Right turned on the t.v. and we lay there, just watching the news, as we usually do when there’s a warning.  But at some point we heard a sound….a building roar, really, that motivated us right out of bed and into the basement – taking the kids with us, of course.  The worst of the wind was gone before we even got downstairs, but it left a significant amount of damage in it’s wake.  We’ve got trees split and shingles blown off, but the church next to us suffered far worse.  A section of its roof is completely gone, and the pieces are all over the neighborhood.  Want a better view of the damage to the church AND the damage in our backyard?  Both are featured in a news video at KSDK (can’t seem to embed the video directly).

Yes, that’s our big branch hanging in one of our Sugar Maples, along with a lot of insulation from the church.

We are all safe, and I’ve heard of only one minor injury connected to the storm.  So we give thanks, and might be a bit quicker going downstairs next time.

Glad to hear the Autenrieth clan is well.

I totally missed the storm. I got a phone call about 7 am. The Firstborn’s school called to say that they would be closed due to a power outage. This is how I learned that there was a storm.
