Last night my mood was blue. Tonight, if I had to pick a color, it would be a sunny yellow – and that despite the fact that it’s a dark and stormy night outside. Over the past month or so, Sunday has been the most stressful day of the week for me. Never mind the reasons: it just stinks to have reached a point where you are dreading the Lord’s Day.
But today – thank God – broke the bad Sunday streak. Not every problem was solved, but the good, the true and the beautiful just steamrolled over my troubles. Honest questions in Sunday school (my favorite kind – ones that the kind resist tidy answers), a large, joyful crowd in worship, a sermon that met me where I am, and finally a wonderful Common Ground meeting. We had 25 people tonight and we cover a lot of life terrain between us. The newlyweds, the single mom, the blended family, the recently retired, the mob of kids – I can feel that we are becoming family to one another.
God is good. His love is true. And life with His people is beautiful.
